School Election

In 2017, the Legislature revised Iowa's election schedule. The city and school elections have been combined in

November of odd-numbered years. School elections are held to elect school board members and community college directors. Instructional support levy measures are often included in school elections.


 Some school districts in Clayton County are primarily located in other counties. Elections for each district are run independently by the counties, but one county, called the "control county," determines the winner on behalf of the district after the independent counties canvass their election returns.
